A Bumper Crop of Salmonberries!

And we'll have fun, fun, fun 'til the ravens take our berries away!  Cliff and I have been up to our elbows in salmonberry jam over the past week or two, and have had a great time harvesting, cooking and canning.  Salmonberries range in color from yellow to dark red which makes for a very pretty berry bowl.  The turquoise crock pictured here is an heirloom from Cliff's Grandma Bertha and the antique Ball jars were handed down to me from my Grandma Hinds.

Emily! How FUN it was to pick berries with you! Canning is a LOT more fun with a friend ~ especially when YOU'RE the friend! :)

The salmonberries sure make a good picture! How do they taste? I'll have to try some during thanksgiving!

Holly says that Elisabet (exchange student for the coming year) is arriving in Juneau on August 15th. We're thinking of going down to get her, as a family, but our car is too small. Perhaps she can come to Sitka too.
