It was my truck. I found it in Juneau and Cliff agreed to
buy it for me because I had my mind set on it.
We paid $1500 cold hard cash for it and our friend Clark
sent it over on the ferry, complete with a "smelly good."
That was 4 years ago and we recently sold our old reliable
1987 Toyota pickup - the time had come.
Believe it or not (wait til you see the pictures!)
it was a sad day for me and I even wrote it a little note
thanking it for its good service over the 4 years that we owned it and
recalling some of the fun times we had enjoyed while driving it.
I left the note hidden down in the seat, but took a picture of it first!

Pathetic, isn't it? I don't know what to say - I can't really explain why I would
be attached to such a hunk o' junk, but I was!
We received several calls after Cliff placed this funny ad in the paper.
Everyone wanted to see the custom rust job I guess!
I took the next picture of moss growing in the rear-view mirror,
not because it was unique to our old truck, quite the contrary,
we've found that when you live in a rain-forest, this is all too common!
Right before we sealed the deal on the sale, the "Gray Ghost" had a flat tire!!!
I couldn't believe it! Sweet Cliff changed the tire right there in the elementary school
parking lot and this was the last image I had in my mind as I walked Christy back home,
leaving Cliff to take care of the details. He always does. Good man.
Notice the fine work my husband did wiring up the gas tank nozzle!
So, here is our new (2002) Toyota Tundra pick up truck!
Whew! It's pretty slick, don't ya think?! We've had it for a few months now and I've done my part breaking it in. I backed up into a really big rock one morning while I was out at garage sales and put a nice little dent in the bumper. Christy hasn't quite found her niche inside yet and bumps around quite a bit unless we hold her. It hasn't earned a name yet, so for now, I think I'll call it, New Faithful. So far, so good. Cliff drives it a couple times a week, he still prefers to ride his bike or walk to work, but I know that he feels better anyway,
knowing that I'm warm, safe and comfortable inside.
The best feature?
Definitely the intermittent wipers!
I had no idea what I was missing and can't believe I lived in a
rainforest for 5 years without them! They come highly recommended!
Question of the week: what are you driving these days and what is your favorite feature?

Oh, this reminds me: What ever happened to your BLAZER! :) Ha!
Hey, Monica! Ha! Thank you for not referring to our old, old truck as a Bronco. I thank you and the Blazer thanks you. The "Blazer Wolf" is still around town - we see it often and always point it out, "There's Blazer Wolf!" We sold the blazer 4 years ago after we bought the Gray Ghost mentioned in this blog post. We got the Blazer Wolf's name from a Fiddler on the Roof character named, Lazar Wolf. :)
Betty, you're so wonderful! I love that you wrote your truck a note and stuck it down in the seat AND I love that you only use shampoo (from your comment on my blog). I'm so glad I not only got to meet but also got to ride in the gray ghost. You do have a good man and that was a fantastic ad for the paper! :) Kelly
Betty....this blog is awesome!! I absolutely love reading it!! The Gray Ghost with the nice rust finish brought me laughing to tears :-)) Priceless words from dear Cliff!
What you guys have done and are/continue to do is so amazing. I LOVE your orange kitchen and your awesome attention to detail in all your creations. Thanks so much for sharing your stories and photos. I plan to follow along with this! Love you both!!

Thanks for the family mention. I also remember your Blazer as we had a matching one (I think maybe we had the same rust pattern?). :) We called ours Big Blue.
Now we own a Honda Odyssey -- my favorite feature is the electric doors (able to push a button from the front seat to close us all in). :)
Looks like our AK trip is postponed until next summer -- Lindsey's getting married then!
Oh, yes, I can relate, selling our 4-Runner (after I killed it). We took photos of every angle. :) Love you! And love the blog!!! You should be writing our newsletter. ;) Rhoda
Funny that I'm anonymous...too lazy to get a new google acct. or ID. Whatever. Rhoda (Anonymous)
P.S. Just noticed that you called your Blazer "Blazer Wolf." I knew what you meant. I love that musical. I still acccidentally call our Honda Odyssey the 4-Runner sometimes. And, unlike Sandi, we do NOT like the automatic doors. You have to have it in park for them to work, and this family likes to FLY up to the school and throw the doors open before it's totally in park so the kids can RUN into the school and not be tardy. :) Now the door stops opening and beeps until I throw it into park. Poor Carter, he's our doorman. :) RHODA
